Drill team SOP
- Purpose. This SOP sets standards and qualification for membership in the Drill Team and establishes criteria for Drill Team Awards.
- Composition of the Team. The Drill Team will organized as follows:
- Drill Team Commander. The Drill Team Commander will normally be a LET-3 Cadet with the leadership capability to direst the team. Specific responsibilities are:
- Supervises the team at all times.
- Plans and carries out drill routines.
- Insures that fees and registrations are sent in for Drill Meets.
- Makes recommendations for appointment of subordinate leaders.
- Drill Team Executive Officer. The Executive Officers is normally a LET-3 Cadet who is prepared to assume the duties of the commander when required. Specific duties are:
- Handles the administration of the team.
- Supervises the team First Sergeant and Armorer.
- Advises on suspension, appointments, and position changes of leaders within the team.
- Drill Team First Sergeant. The Drill Team First Sergeant is normally a LET-2, or LET-3 Cadet. His duties are:
- Keeps the roll book and assigns points for the various practices, meetings, etc.
- Assists the Executive Officer in the supervision of the Armorer.
- Works with the Executive Officer in preparing lists of Cadets eligible for the various team awards.
- Armorer. The Armorer is responsible to insure that no Drill Team weapon is issued unless a weapons card is turned in. Responsible to advise the Commander when the Drill Team rifles need maintenance.
- Squad Leaders. The Drill Team Squad Leaders train their squads in all facets of Regulation and Exhibition drill.
- Procedures.
- Practice. Practices will be conducted during Drill and Leadership period. Additional practices will be scheduled and announced by the Drill Team Commander. The following specific procedures will be followed:
- The team will fall in and report will be made.
- Weapons will be drawn by turning over a weapons receipt card.
- Cadets after receiving their rifles will fall in the bay.
- Regulation Drill will be done first followed by Exhibition Drill.
- At the completion of drill, Cadets will turn in their rifles and receive their weapons receipt card. The team will then be dismissed.
- Awards.
- Boots and beret are authorized to be worn with all uniforms by active team members after two meetings.
- The Drill Team shoulder cord is authorized to be worn.
- The Drill Team ribbon is awarded after the first quarter of the school year to those active members.
- The Drill Team varsity letter is awarded after the third quarter (or last drill meet of the year), whichever is later.
- Suspensions and Termination. A Drill Team member may be suspended from the team upon the recommendation of the team Commander and Executive Officer and the approval of the team Advisor. Upon suspension, the members must return his shoulder cord to the supply room immediately. Suspension for cause from one team will result in the cadet being suspended from all other JROTC teams. Some reasons for suspension are:
- Failure to attend practices or meets.
- Failure to achieve Drill Team standards of proficiency.
- Failure to maintain high standards of dress and appearance.
- Failure to maintain passing grades in subjects other than ROC.
- Failure to adhere to high standards of conduct and discipline as to bring discredit upon the Drill Team and the Corps of Cadets.
- Failure to comply with the orders of the Drill Team Leaders.
- Failure to show up when scheduled to compete without a valid excuse and prior notification to the Drill Team Commander
